Opinion

Opinion â€" What Purpose Does Education Serve in Today’s World A week ago I had a Twitter dialog with Thomas Staunton concerning the position of education. After a short chit-chat, we each decided to pen our thoughts on the topic of ‘What Purpose Does Education Serve in Today’s World’? Thomas Staunton has his submit revealed on his web site right here, the place you can read his thoughts. And you'll be able to learn my thoughts in this submit. At the time of writing, neither of us knows what the opposite thinks. My views on Education are fairly simple. I don’t prefer it. Personally, I don’t think a degree is worth the paper it’s printed on. I finished school after which went on to do a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a Polytechnic in Mumbai. I was content with it, I was learning, having fun with and looking forward to it. Then began society’s relentless questions on what I was going to do in the future? I was 17 once I started an internship with an Engineering big. I shortly realised I could not work my means by way of the w orking life if I didn’t have diploma documents and qualifications to again me up. Even then, doing a Diploma was thought-about ‘less clever’, whilst it was exactly the opposite as I didn’t do the time-losing of faculty life and signed as much as hardcore Engineering. After the internship, I determined to do a degree, JUST TO GET A JOB and get some qualification backing. Now, you would possibly suppose that is not too nice. Well, it’s not. But that’s society right now. In our society, training isn't knowledge anymore, it’s results, it’s the name of college, it’s the area or country you come from! Education is just a move that lets you knock on the employers’ doorways. Without it, you'll be nowhere near a job. Education was supposed to help society. I wanted to be an Engineer to help society. But that was quickly doused off by society mocking my thirst for information. Even at University, who cares what you might be taught? No-one. As a world student, I’ve paid g reater charges and got no extra information than I would’ve if I learnt by way of Wikipedia or went straight right into a job. Although, I wouldn’t get a job if I didn’t have a level! To conclude, the society has pushed college students and graduates to get educated for job purposes, to make careers out of it. There is a very small share who get educated for society’s sake; the remainder of us killed our passion years in the past. I don’t know what Thomas Staunton has to say, and I hope he writes something good on this topic, because I hope there are some people who have the power and passion to alter the thinking on education right now. As for me, I am ‘a part of the society’ Working, Earning, Living. In that order. Please read Thomas Stauntons’ views on What Purpose Does Education Serve in Today’s World.
